Jhapa: In the past month, three individuals have lost their lives in Jhapa due to encounters with wild elephants. The victims include two employees and one civilian, according to the Division Forest Office in Jhapa. The fatal incidents occurred as wild elephants ventured out of the Jalthal forest.
The casualties include two residents from Haldibari Rural Municipality and one from Damak Municipality, all succumbing to elephant attacks. The most recent tragedy took place this morning when a 58-year-old office assistant, Patal Rajwanshi, from Ward No. 2 was trampled to death during a morning walk in Parokhapi of the same ward.
The series of fatal encounters began with the death of Dhan Bahadur, a forest guard at Rankali Community Forest in Haldibari Rural Municipality-3, on December 1. The first victim, Padmalal Tamang of Beldangi Camp in Damak Municipality-2, lost his life in an elephant attack on November 22.
